Montblanc Explorer is another designer fragrance that’s constantly compared with Creed Aventus. When I first tried it, yes, I noticed something in common. But the interesting part is that the note pyramid is different. A different set of notes, yet such a familiar direction. There’s something interesting about that, I have to say.
So I wouldn’t simply call it a copy of Aventus. There’s a resemblance in the scent, but Explorer itself is a different story. Fresh citrus, leather, ambroxan — it all comes together in a character of its own, even if it brings familiar associations to mind.
And this is one of those cases where relatively little money gets you a good-quality perfume. Very good for its segment. It often costs noticeably less than other fragrances in the same category, too.
It’s certainly worth considering for everyday wear if you like this style. I can picture wearing it both during the day and in the evening. But that’s my opinion — someone else may disagree, of course. I choose a fragrance to suit the particular day and my mood, so I wouldn’t tie Explorer to just one occasion.
Online, it’s often called an affordable alternative to Aventus. Well, yes, there’s something in common in the scent. But what interests me more is that a different note pyramid has produced a good perfume in its own right, one that deserves attention without constantly being compared with Creed.
Longevity on me specifically is around seven to eight hours. The scent trail is moderate.
Overall, a good fragrance, no question. In its designer segment, I think it’s pretty great.
